Back in 2015, Attleboro music lover, Rusty Rounds, thought it would be fun to brings his friends together to enjoy the music they loved while growing up in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. It was a simple model: Invite a few bands together to play classic rock. And invite old friends and classmates to pay a small entrance fee to cover expenses and enjoy the music. There was no intention that it would be an annual event, no intention for it to become a charity. It was just one day to celebrate the fact that Attleboro Still Rocks the 60s, 70s, & 80s.
But there’s no stopping the power of a good idea. The response to Attleboro Still Rocks the 60s, 70s, & 80s was so great that the revenue generated far exceeded the expenses. So, the organizers made the decision to donate the proceeds -- $5,300 -- to On Common Ground, an organization that helped people facing poverty. And, with that -- and in response to the community’s support, and because the party was SO MUCH FUN -- Attleboro Still Rocks the 60s, 70s, & 80s stopped being a single event and became an organization. It also shortened its name.
The newly-renamed Attleboro Still Rocks chose to direct its support to music-related beneficiaries, and the proceeds from the 2017, 2018, and 2019 events were given to Attleboro School of Rock to provide scholarships to kids who wanted to take music lessons but whose families couldn’t afford them. After a pandemic-caused hiatus in 2020, 2021, and 2022, ASR resumed in 2023 with the proceeds supporting The Tim Lindsey Music Fund (link), which honors the memory of the beloved musician and humanitarian whose band, The Blue F. O’s, performed at the 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 ASR events.
Following the hugely successfully 2023 event to honor Tim Lindsey, the board of ASR decided to expand its charitable fund raising and inaugurated a series of smaller, mostly acoustic Attleboro Still Rocks Unplugged events at area clubs throughout the year.
